Piston
ring inspection system. The manufacture of piston rings needed
a system to automatically pick up, store and deliver piston rings
in bulk to final inspection. The drawing show the finished solution.
We used a large container (750# of product) and a four position
auto load station with conveyors running from the shaker to the
top of each loading position. Once loaded the container would
be transfer to the pick up position and a call would be placed
for the transfer car to pick up the container and deliver it to
a power and free loading station. The containers were designed
(and built by us) to be handled on roller conveyor as well as
on and off from the P7F system. Once loaded on the P&F system
the carrier went into a storage bank for a preset cure time carried
along with the container by a read/write IF tag. Once the cure
time had been satisfied, the container would be to one of three
auto inspection stations, or to a manual inspection station. Each
of the auto stations incorporated a lift and dump (by weight)
station to dump the rings unto the infeed of the inspection system
at a “metered” rate. Once emptied the container would
be delivered back to the system load area. |
